Compassionate End-of-Life Care For The Pet You Love

Learn about our gentle approach to hospice, palliative care, and euthanasia.

We understand that saying goodbye is one of the most challenging experiences you will face.

Our end-of-life care services are designed to provide comfort and dignity to your aging or ill pet and support you and your family as you make decisions about your pet’s care. From assessing quality of life to planning a loving goodbye, we’ll be here for you throughout the entire process to ensure your final moments with your companion are peaceful.

Hospice and palliative care services focus on providing comfort and improving or preserving quality of life for pets with terminal illnesses. Each pet’s end-of-life journey is unique, and our dedicated team works closely with you to create a personalized care plan that addresses pain, mobility, nutrition, and any other needs your pet may have. Hospice and palliative care are appropriate for any pet with an incurable illness when aggressive or expensive treatments to prolong life are unlikely to improve life quality or could cause emotional or financial hardship for pet owners. Quality of Life Resources

Below are some helpful resources and websites to help evaluate quality of life and navigate these tough decisions for end of life care.

AVMA information about pet euthanasia and quality of life assessment can be found by clicking here. There is a quality of life scale known as the HHHHHMM scale. Though scoring can be confusing, the overall subjects to consider are: Hurt, Hunger, Hydration, Hygiene, Happiness, Mobility, More Bad than Good. As pet parents, we look at our pets with love and want them to be with us longer. It’s difficult to be objective or even to know what to consider before euthanasia. The HHHHHMM scale can help you know what to consider in your pet’s quality of life. Learn more about the HHHHHMM scale here.

Ensuring a high quality of life for aging pets involves providing them with comfort, pain management, and veterinary care tailored to their specific needs. But this also means making difficult decisions, such as handling treatment of a terminal illness or disease. Ohio State University provides a guide on assessing quality of life and how to make these difficult decisions. It can be viewed here.
Cats can be especially good at hiding illnesses and discomfort from their families. Because of this, it can be particularly difficult when it comes to end-of-life care and decisions. The Feline Grimace Scale site and associated apps can be helpful.

Euthanasia Choosing euthanasia can be a heart-wrenching decision, but it can be the kindest option when a pet's quality of life has significantly declined. Knowing when it’s time to say goodbye to a dear pet can be incredibly difficult. Our experienced veterinarians can assist in quality-of-life assessments, euthanasia planning, and emotional support, which can help you feel confident in your care decisions. Our goal is to provide peace and comfort for you and your pet. Our compassionate veterinarians work with you to ensure your wishes for your pet’s final moments are fulfilled.  We strive to provide a stress-free experience, respect your privacy, and offer the emotional support and guidance you need. We will work to assist with aftercare and memorial items through our partnership with The Bridge Pet Memorial, which is locally owned and operated.
